Slate Roofing
Ireland

Specialist installation of natural Welsh, Spanish, and high-performance synthetic slates. Timeless beauty, built to last a lifetime. Fully insured and guaranteed.

Natural & Synthetic Slate Materials We Install

We guide you in selecting the ideal slate material to match your home's architecture, local heritage guidelines, and budget.

Natural Welsh Slate

Widely considered the finest slate in the world. Unmatched durability, beautiful blue-grey hue, and a lifespan often exceeding 100 years. Ideal for premium new builds and heritage conservation.

Natural Spanish Slate

A highly popular, cost-effective natural slate option. Delivers excellent durability and a gorgeous dark grey/black finish that complements contemporary and traditional Irish homes.

Synthetic / Fibre Cement Slate

Lightweight, perfectly uniform, and highly resilient. Synthetic slates offer a modern, clean look at a lower material cost, while still providing excellent weather protection.

How We Install a Premium Slate Roof

1

Thorough Inspection & Quote

Lewis personally ascends the roof to check structures, battens, and valley conditions. We provide options and clear, upfront pricing.

2

Preparation & Breathable Membrane

We strip the old roof and lay high-grade breathable underlay membrane. This creates a secondary weatherproofing barrier that allows your house to breathe.

3

Battening & Slate Laying

Treated timber battens are secured at precise gauge intervals. Slates are hand-graded, trimmed, and double-nailed using copper or aluminum rust-resistant nails.

4

Leadwork & Ridge Finishing

Valleys, chimneys, and abutments are flashed using premium lead code. Ridge tiles are bedded in robust sand-cement mortar or dry-fixed securely.

Slate Roofing FAQs

How long does a slate roof last in Ireland?
A natural Welsh slate roof can easily last over 100 years. Spanish slates generally last 75–100 years, while high-quality synthetic fibre-cement slates have a lifespan of 40–60 years when installed correctly.
What is the price difference between natural and synthetic slate?
Synthetic slates are cheaper in terms of material cost and slightly faster to install. Natural slate is a premium option requiring hand-sorting and grading, making it more expensive upfront, but it offers far greater long-term durability and value.
Can you repair individual broken slates?
Yes! If a slate gets broken or loose due to wind, we can slide it out and replace it using a slate ripper and lead tingle or specialist slate clips. You don't need a whole new roof for isolated slate damage.
